How to Approach Challenging Topics in Conversations with Children

Educators for Peaceful Classrooms and Communities, the leading peace training organization for EC educators, offers this limited-time free workshop!

Saturday, September 23, 2023, 9:00AM to 10:30AM

About the Workshop

Children are observant and intuitive to many world issues. As families and teachers are touched by news through media, children often pay attention to the feelings and opinions of adults. Soon children begin to ask questions and quietly process what adults are reacting to. This leads to more questions, but instead of ignoring the challenging topics, how can we have appropriate conversations with young children to discuss and break down how to cope with significant issues?

What We Will Cover

Communication is key to not only sharing thoughts with children, but also hearing their concerns of the children regarding fears, questions, and ideas on the topic. In this workshop we will share our stories with children and provide you with tools that have worked for us, so that you too can have difficult, yet meaningful conversations with children. We will begin by identifying topics and dissecting pieces on how to have these discussions with children in an age-appropriate manner. Lastly, we will conclude our workshop with creating a safe space for having difficult conversations with children.
