Introducing the Family Corner!

This column is a resource that providers can share with their community. EPCC wants to empower providers to build strong relationships with their families. Our goal is for the important adults in the child’s life to be “on the same page” in support of each child. This column includes information, resources, tips, links to useful websites, and suggestions for family education and engagement activities.

Much of our attention is on the presidential campaign these days and it will only get more intense over the summer and fall.

Consider this: Engage your children in the act of voting. You can talk to them about the election and the importance of making your voice heard. Back in the day, we took our grandsons with us to the polls. It was wonderful. They had a child size voting booth for the children to use and someone to show them how the ballot works. My grandson was a bit too young for that, but they gave him a sticker and that impressed him! Now that the boys are in high school, the school is discussing voting not who or what to vote for, but the importance of voting in a democracy.

Today many of us vote by mail. We invite you to share the process with your child. Let them see the ballot and how you fill in the dots. Take them with you to drop off the completed ballot AND let them wear the sticker! Your vote counts and you are your child’s most important role model!
