About the Workshop

Language holds power. As educators, if we are aware and intentional, we can choose to use language that deescalates, increases inclusivity, and fosters collaboration. By noticing and changing our language to reflect the peaceful world we seek, we model and promote peace. Our daily language can promote violence and injustice without our conscious knowledge.

Through presentation, activities, and working with real life classroom scenarios we will learn and practice using positive and encouraging language that is consistent with our intentions.

What We Will Cover

After taking this workshop you will be able to:

  • Identify words that promote peace.

  • Identify words that are inclusive and anti-bias.

  • Differentiate words that guide and empower from those that control or oppress.

  • Choose effective language for conflict management.

  • Choose effective language for gaining cooperation from young children, families, and colleagues.
